Benefits could include: accessibility (because low wage jobs are more abundant than higher payed jobs, they are more accessible to people who may need it), they require less qualifications thereby increasing accessibility, they also may work better for people who have different schedules or lifestyles that fits more for lower waged jobs, such as babysitting

Drawbacks: they often do not provide enough money for the people who rely on these low wage jobs -- leaving many people barely making ends meet, some low wage jobs are proven to be taxing on health due to the difficulty and long hours (waitressing for example), and another drawback that comes to mind is the lack of benefits (healthcare benefits as an example)

The benefits/drawbacks of low-wage work

Since the question asks about low-wage work and not workers, then that is what I will deal with. Low-wage work is usually work that requires little or no education, is of a lower skill set, and requires less training, That is not always the case, those would be the benefits.

The down side is people tend to get stuck in these jobs, or there is little or no incentive to stay long term in those jobs. Also, these jobs don't pay well so they are usually ideal for persons in school, or seeking part-time or supplementary work. If one relies on a low-wage job full time then they will often get stuck in low wage jobs, and they often need to other sources of income to pay their bills. For example governmental subsidies like food stamps.

So low wage jobs can be rewarding for those with little or no education who may be in school gaining new skills or for those who need supplementary income without a lot of training.
