Benefits could include: accessibility (because low wage jobs are more abundant than higher payed jobs, they are more accessible to people who may need it), they require less qualifications thereby increasing accessibility, they also may work better for people who have different schedules or lifestyles that fits more for lower waged jobs, such as babysitting
Drawbacks: they often do not provide enough money for the people who rely on these low wage jobs -- leaving many people barely making ends meet, some low wage jobs are proven to be taxing on health due to the difficulty and long hours (waitressing for example), and another drawback that comes to mind is the lack of benefits (healthcare benefits as an example)
