Low wage workers deal with great discrimination and hardship because they must often make do with what little they are given. Minimum wage is not nearly enough to support an average lifestyle in most countries, and low wage workers are often not given insurance benefits that other workers have. Many low wage workers join unions to protect and demand for their rights. Many people become low wage workers due to disadvantaged life circumstances, moving to a new country, or starting one's first job. Low wage workers are a diverse and large group who drive the economy of most nations.
