vB = initial velocity of B = -5 m/s
mA = 1200 kg
mB = 1800 kg
Conservation of linear momentum:
mAvA + mBvB = (mA + mB)u
u = (mAvA + mBvB) / (mA + mB)
Plug in the numbers and get u in m/s. Be careful with the signs. Negative result is west, positive result is east.
Get lost kinetic energy from
ΔK = (mA + mB)u2/2 - (mAvA2/2 + mBvB2/2)
% lost is 100[ΔK / (mAvA2/2 + mBvB2/2)].
