White privilege goes even deeper. It’s what makes White people’s experiences the default value. Especially in fiction, but even in journalism, a person’s race may not be mentioned if they’re White, but people of color will be identified. It also means that even White people who are poor may be served first in stores, deferred to on the street, or, say, released without bail for minor crimes while people of color go to jail.
