A peptide bond is the single bond created between the carboxyl carbon on one amino acid residue and the amino group of another amino acid during protein synthesis via a dehydration reaction. This is accomplished via the peptidyl-transferase activity of the large ribosomal subunit of the ribosome in both Pro- and Eukaryotes. It is an extremely stable bond due to its partial double bond character caused by resonance with the carbonyl oxygen and the bond.
