Quartering refers to giving up their "living quarters" to troops. The quartering act was seen as such a big problem to the colonists that the third amendment bans it in the United States: "No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law"
