You would write it like this:

 

7 * X = 24.5

("seven times X is 24.5")

 

Could also write it like this:

 

7X = 24.5

 

To solve for X (get "X" by itself) you simply have to do the opposite of Multiplying -> Divide.

So Divide BOTH sides of the equation by 7

 

7X / 7 = 24.7 / 7

 

The 7's on the left side cancel each other out:

 

X = 24.5 / 7

X = 3.5
