1. How many even 4-digit numbers can be formed from the digits 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9 with no repetitions allowed? (Hint: Try filling the units place first.)
2. A red six-sided die and a green six-sided die are tossed. In how many ways is it possible for the dice to come up even numbers? (Distinguish between the 2 dice.)

You will use the concept of the multiplication rule to answer these problems.

As in the hint, look at the 4th digit (last digit) first. There's only 2 to choose from (4 or 6).

Now since there are no repetitions allowed, since you already used one number for the last digit, there's only 4 to choose from for the first digit,

4 _ _ 2

then 3 for the 2nd,

4 3 _ 2

and 2 for the 3rd.

4 3 2 2

Then you multiply these numbers.

4*3*2*2 = 48.

Apply the same concept in #2. (3 evens for red * 3 evens for green =9)
