There are around 5.8 million Americans diagnosed with Alzheimer's .7% of Alzheimer's cases are familiar, meaning that is genetic and passed down from a prior generation. 93% of diagnosed Alzheimer's are spontaneous, resulting from mutation. Due to the fact that most cases of Alzheimer's are spontaneous, epigenetics and natural selection would not play a role in those diagnosed cases of Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's is a result of misfolded proteins, which then result in A-Beta plagues in the brain. Alzheimer's cannot be transmitted from one person to another.
