If a plant is in the dark for a long enough time photosynthesis will slow down and eventually stop. It won't stop immediately because it has light reactions going that will be completed in the dark. (i.e. the dark reactions). When the material from the light reactions are processed, then photosynthesis will stop and therefore the O2, which is a by product of photosynthesis, will stop being generated and it will decrease and then stop completely..
I hope that helps. Please feel free to contact me for additional explanation or help with Biology. I would like to work with you. .
