Simply stating the domain and range of a function is generally not enough to determine a rule for a function. It may be tempting to assume that because the domain is {2,4,6,8} and the range is {2,3,4,5} that the function maps 2 to 2, 4 to 3, 6 to 4, and 8 to 5. This is not required, however. There are other rules which could be assumed, 24 in all, each just as valid as the next.
