Nat Turner, who believed he was receiving messages from God, wanted to violently fight oppression he experienced at the hands of white people. While many opponents of slavery saw their own meanings in the Nat Turner Rebellion, the truth is that Nat Turner's insurrection was religion-based, as many called him "The Prophet" and believed that he was handpicked by God to lead them out of bondage.
