I am assuming you just want a brief overview of these two terms. The independent variable is what you change in the experiment. If you have an experiment such as seeing the effects of plant food on plant growth, the pkants that receive no food are the control and the plants receiving the food are the independent variable. The dependent variable in essence, is the result of what happens to the independent variable. It is the measure of change of the variable being tested, i.e. How much did the plants grow with plant food?
