The domain just means what can x equal? In most cases, the answer is “Any real number.” because x can be anything. And this is the answer to both of your expressions here.
The exception to this general rule is with fractions. For example, the domain of 1/x is “Any real number except 0,” because you cannot have 0 as a fraction’s denominator. Also, for 1/(1 - x), the answer is “Any real number except 1,” because again, you cannot have 0 as a fraction’s denominator.
