This is a problem where you have to look at the decimal places one by one to put these numbers in order from least to greatest.
I find it easier if all of the numbers are in a column, and all the decimal POINTS are lined up. To do this, I might have to add some zeroes at the ends of some numbers, or at the beginning of other numbers. I KNOW that these zeroes added to the far left or the far right of a number don't make the number change.
So, our mixed up list is 8.062, 8.26, 8.026, and 8.6
The numbers in a column with the decimal POINTS in line and zeroes added to make them all the same length, look like this:
8.062
8.260
8.026
8.600
Since all the numbers have 8 on the LEFT of the decimal point, we only need to compare the numbers on the right of the decimal point:
062 (62)
260
026 (26)
600
I can see now that only the third number (26) is in the wrong spot, it should be first because it is the smallest. The others, 62, 260 and 600 are in order for least to greatest.
So going back to my original column and I move the third number to the top spot:
8.026
8.062
8.260
8.600
Now I can remove my extra zeroes so I have normal looking numbers again, and my sorted list from least to greatest looks like:
8.026, 8.062, 8.26, 8.6
All done.
