Why do you think the farmers of the constitution wanted a representative democracy rather than direct democracy?

The Framers distrusted direct democracy for very good reasons. They viewed it as mob rule and that the rights of minorities would be trampled on in a direct democracy. Consider the following thought experiment. You have 2 wolves and a sheep and they are voting on what to have for dinner. This illustrates the problem of direct democracy very well.
