Stabilizing selection is selecting against both extremes, forming a bell curve.
For example, let’s assume you have a population of giraffes, some being really short others really tall as being two extremes.
Stabilizing selection would show that the largest number of individuals present in a population will be those of moderate height, with the really tall and real short individuals dying off due to an environmental factors (short die off because they cant reach higher branches for food, tallest are easily identifiable by predators).
