Lactic acid is formed from a biochemical process called the Cori cycle it is then sent to the liver to be converted to glucose (sugar) to be used in different cycles to make ATP. A more expanded answer that would take several pages is available.
I think more importantly is the process that occurs to make the lactic acid. Lactic acid comes from the breakdown of glucose to make ATP used by the muscles in a low oxygen state. In an oxidized state pyruvate would be made instead.
Lactic acid comes from the NADH being broken down into NAD (another energy producer)
