You can set up a proportion to help solve this problem. sq. yards/hour = sq.yards/hour
We know that Jose can clean 1/2 sq. yards in 2/3 hour and we want to figure out how many sq. yards in ONE hour.
(1/2)/(2/3) = x/1
We want to figure out how we can go from 2/3 of an hour to 1 hour. A fraction multiplied by its reciprocal is 1 so 2/3 x 3/2 will equal 1 hour. Whatever we do to the bottom, we must also do to the top to keep everything proportional. 1/2 x 3/2 = 3/4.
This means that Jose can sweep 3/4 square yards in 1 hour.
