A washer and a dryer cost 844 combined. The washer costs 66 less than the dryer. What is the cost of the dryer?

Let w be the cost of washer and

d be the cost of dryer

Given washer and dryer are together 84 $

i.e w+d=844-----I

and also given washer costs 66 less than the dryer i.e

w=d-66------------II

substituting II n I for d

d-66+d=844

2d=844+66

2d=910

d=910/2

d=455

Therefore the cost of the dryer is 455$
