I am not a native English speaker. My writing has many mistakes all the time. What can I do?

To improve your writing, ask an instructor, another colleague, a friend, or a family member with strengths in the English language who may be able to provide you with proofreading support. You can also use online tools, such as Grammarly, to assist in spell-check components but a live body is always helpful to assist. Many times when I review a peer's writing or even a video they want to post online, and English is not their first language, I ask them to give me a little background of what they are trying to accomplish. I provide my feedback and we discuss. The biggest thing is to be confident in yourself. Give yourself kudos for trying something new and working towards improving your skills. Hope this helps!

Reading is your "method". Read everything and the more the better. Books, newspapers, internet "staff" on your topic etc. Your eyes will get used to English words, phrases, sentences and your brain will absorb them after hundreds of samples:)

You could hire someone to proofread your papers, and there are some online services that help with this as well, but I have not used them.

If you are trying to improve your English on your own, I suggest working on one issue at a time. For example, first, spelling, but beware of relying only on spellcheck. Second, common mistakes such as mistakes with:"to or too" and mistakes with contractions "their, there, they're" "its it's" "your you're" and with agreement between noun and verb tenses and use of the correct articles. You can find online resources to explain these simpler rules.

When you get to more complicated types of mistakes (grammar tenses, organization, etc), you may want to turn to in-person or online tutoring, with a focus on writing.

If the structure and content of your paper are just what you want them to be, you need to have someone proofread the text. A proofreader will look for errors in grammar, spelling, and syntax, and help you choose, correct or eliminate slang or awkward idioms. I'd love to help you with that! You can do it!
