At least ten years ago, there was much to do about aluminum (Al) and mental illness such as Alzheimer's (AD) and other dementias. This probably arose from animal studies where aluminum was injected into the brain of experimental rats and there were histological changes similar to those seen in AD. These studies have since been regarded as having little merit. The amount of Al that enters the body from present day cookware is minimal, if at all. I know nothing of Teflon cookware, but as your family suggests, if it were dangerous, it probably wouldn't be on the market.
