You can use ratios to solve this problem. If Jim reads 7 pages in 10 minutes, we can write that as a ratio like this:
7 pages / 10 minutes
We want to know how many pages he can read in 15 minutes, if he reads at the same rate. We can write a ratio for this, too, and use the letter x for the unknown number of pages:
x pages / 15 minutes
Now set the ratios equal to each other (since Jim is reading at the same rate).
7 / 10 = x /15
Then cross-multiply (one denominator by the other numerator, the other denominator by the opposite numerator).
10x = 105
Then solve for x.
x = 105/10 = 10.5
Jim will read 10.5 pages in 15 minutes (if he reads at a constant rate).
