Hank is a science educator who has worked with middle- and high school students and taught at the college level as an adjunct instructor. He holds a B.S. and a professional degree from Arizona State University and an M.S. in science education from Montana State University. Hank has also worked as a naturalist at several preserves and has written extensively about science.

Hank believes that the best way to encourage student mastery of science is to give students an opportunity to see and appreciate its practical value. He incorporates activities into his teaching, as well as more traditional methods, and strives to collaborate as much as possible with parents, teachers, and others to make sure that the student's academic progress is advanced as much as possible.

Hank believes that encouraging curiosity and critical thinking are essential to developing scientific literacy. He uses activities and demonstrations to teach concepts when possible. As a tutor who also helps students with math, Hank focuses on building both confidence and strong mathematical reasoning skills. He also emphasizes the importance of reading.

"I am very good at helping students of varied abilities," Hank says. "I love it when a student reaches those moments when it all comes together. In fact, that was me when I was in high school and even early in college! What helped me was some methods of learning and studying that I was taught; I hope to pass those on to my clients."

"I've worked with hundreds of students," Hank says. "Everyone can learn, and do well in, science and math."

Hank has worked with students in the sciences, including AP Biology, AP Chemistry, Earth system science, AP Environmental Science, and AP Physics 1 and 2, and in pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, AP World History, AP US History, AP Human Geography, economics, AP Government, and test preparation (ACT and SAT).

Hank specializes in helping student-athletes and student-artists or musicians.

Can't wait to get started!

We just had our first meeting with Hank: he is going to help our son prepare for the Military ASVAB test over the next 3 months. We talked all weekend about how excited and optimistic we feel! Hank took time to really get to know our son and start to figure out what will click with him. We have every confidence this was an excellent decision!!

Funny, Smart & Knows His Stuff!

Hank was great in our first session. Discussing our issues and steps that we'll take to overcome them. My son loves his sense of humor and all of his expertise. Thank YOU Hank, we're excited to continue working with you!

Very knowledgeable and clear teaching style.

Our daughter's high school has been in either hybrid or online mode this entire school year, which unfortunately means that she is not being taught a great deal. What a disappointment to our daughter who loves to learn. Her course load includes four AP courses and the whole situation has been difficult. Thank goodness we found Hank, who is teaching our daughter AP Biology, as well as a little AP Environmental Science. He has also recently stepped in to help with AP US History. Although she would prefer to learn in a class setting with peers, Hank is a tremendous help. He is always prepared, knows the material, and has a teaching style that immediately clicked with our daughter's learning style. We are grateful!

Great tutor for getting ready to take the ASVAB

My son wanted to join the Navy and needed to brush up his skills before taking the ASVAB. After each practice test Hank worked with him on the areas he needed help on after reviewing the results. The work payed off. After just six 1 to 1 1/2 hour sessions he increased his original score substantially and was able to choose the MOS he was interested in. I would highly recommend Hank to any one who learns best with one-on-one help.

Knowledgable Tutor Geared Toward Child's Learning Style

Hank has been tutoring my son in Chemistry and has been a great resource in bringing his grade up. My son is a creative kid who excels in the Classics and not necessarily in science. Hank was quickly able to identify my son's learning style and has helped him to better understand Chemistry. We are thankful we found Hank and only wish we had found him sooner.
