Among the students I am working with and have worked with I noticed that humor is extremely cultural and is the one of the last 'pieces' of English that they understand and can use. One student in particular lived in the US for fifteen years before understanding our jokes, and making her own. Because of this my feedback is to invest as much time as possible in the culture: Watch movies, read books, talk to people.
Since I started to talk in English, I lost my sense of humor. Has anyone had the same experience? How can I improve my EQ in English?

That's very sad. The best way to get it back is to hang around English speakers who enjoy life and embrace it. Hint: they will also laugh very easily. You might also schedule a lesson with an experienced ESL teacher who also loves having fun even while teaching. This person will act as your coach to regain what you've lost.
