A good guy gone bad is actually something that could work but you would have to play it carefully or you will lose your audience. You would have to show the slow and painful downfall of this hero as they become more and more disillusioned, eventually ending with a twisted world view that makes them the bad guy. Let me be clear though and say that this character can not be written in such a way that the audience hates them, rather it's better for feeling of pity and sadness to come from watching someone fall from such noble heights. I will also say that this can not be a sudden change, it's not realistic for people to pull a 180 (or even a 90) out of nowhere.
Basically, yes, it can be done but you'll have to invest some time into learning how to do it well.
