DNA is made up of molecules known as nucleotides. Each nucleotide in a DNA molecule has several components including a sugar group, a phosphate group, and a nitrogen base. In DNA, there are four different types of nitrogen bases: adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine. Adenine always pairs with thymine and cytosine always pairs with guanine. These four bases can be ordered differently in different people and that determines each organism's genetic code.
