How hard would it be for someone who’s British to learn to speak regular English?

Geraldine C.

This question make me chuckle. Why? Because as the British see it, they already speak normal (what the Americans call "regular") English! Who's to say it's not we Americans who have the funny accent? But to answer your question, it all depends... Some people have a really good "ear" for accents and for foreign languages, and they learn them quickly. And how motivated is the person? And how good is the instruction they'll be receiving? (Film actors or stage actors often acquire the necessary accent relatively quickly - for one reason, it's part of their livelihood and so it's very important that they learn it quickly and learn it well. And then they have professional speech coaches who work with them one-on-one.)
