Alternative expressions for "Our university is strong in [medicine, languages, social sciences, etc.]"?

This is in the context of a university president verbally promoting the departments in his university which are nationally or internationally competitive. One way, although I admit it is a bit clunky, to express this idea is the sentence mentioned in the title: "Our university is strong in [medicine, languages, social sciences, etc.]." What are some alternative sentences with the same meaning, that is, changing the "is strong in" to another verb phrase?

There are a number of possible alternatives:

Our university is outstanding in medicine, etc.\

Our university is preeminent in x, y, z

Our university is famous for...

And you could find plenty of other alternatives in any good thesaurus!

If the president is promoting his university, "strong in" is not going to sell it. As a university, "strong" is the required minimum and expected. You might look at synonyms, e.g. excels, leads, etc., but perhaps statistics for ranking in various areas would help.
