the school cafeteria sells two kinds of wraps:vegetarian and chicken. The vegetarian wrap costs $1.00 and chicken wrap costs $1.80. today they made $98.80 from the 70 wraps sold. How many wraps sold were vegetarian?

Let x = number of vegetarian

      y = number of chicken

 

Then     x     +      y = 70

           1x     + 1.8y = 98.8

 

Subtracting the second equation from the first, we get

-0.8 y = -28.8.

 

Divide both sides by -0.8 to obtain y = 36.  So, x = 70 - 36 = 34.
