An increase in atmospheric greenhouse gases will contribute to an increase in average global temperatures because greenhouse gases like CO2 and methane act like a large blanket around the planet. So, heat can pass through the atmosphere to reach Earth's surface but it has a very hard time leaving due to this dense blanket of gases. Since more heat is trapped and retained, this would lead to higher global temperatures. Cheers, mate!
