The development of refrigeration affected ranching in Texas by decreasing the need for cattle drivers being that it lead to an industry of meatpacking in Texas. With the results of cattle drivers being decreased, cattle were no longer needed to be carried in railways, with railways load decreased, meat were able to be preserved longer due to refrigeration. With meat being able to be shipped hundreds of miles without issues, higher volume of production with lower shipping cost, thus increasing profit and challenging competitors. Another impact was that live cattle were usually shipped in railway, but often they would become unhealthy with the travel, and multiple stops would be needed often to feed and provide water for the cattle, so with refrigeration, it helped salvage the meat better
