I hope this answer does not come too late, but here it is:
We have quite a bunch of verbs which come in pairs like the examples you gave. The difference is one is transitive (requiring an object) and the other intransitive (not requiring an object). Let me give you some examples:
Tarekidan: to explode
"The lamp exploded." = "cheraagh tarekid."
Tarekaandan: to explode/pop something ("something" is the object)
"I popped the balloon." = "baadkonak raa tarekaandam."
In the case of transitive verbs, when you use a specific object, don't forget to pay attention to the object signifier "raa".
