Difference between او and وی?

Is وی just the equivalent of او, but usually in poetry? Or is وی more honorific than او, kind of like ایشان?

Actually, " وی" is a kind of old fashion way to refer to the third single person in the Persian language. We can find a lot of example s with " وی" in both old poems and prose. But now we rarely use it even in poetry.

I would not say honorific in the case of وی it's more official. as in you would hear it being said in the news and articles. If it is in poetry, it is because of how the words sound (mostly).
