Step One: Since we know that the ratio of the two cans is 2 to 3, we can rewrite this as 2:3 or 2/3.
Step Two: We also know that the smaller can has a surface area of 180. Let x represent the larger can's surface area:
2/3 = 180/x :
Step Three: Solve for x.
2/3 = 180/x
2x=(180)3 Cross multiply
2x=540 Simplify
x=270 Divide both sides of the equation by 2
∴The surface area of the larger can is 270 square centimeters.
