Self-compassion is being an adult to yoursel, whereas being a a critic is not adult but reacting out of fear and being sarcastic and intellectually smug. Everyone exists as an adult, critic and child. Our true emotions are housed in the fragile child, who needs, more than anything, acceptance and unconditional love. Self-esteem aim is meant to be accepting of oneself, not delusions of superiority or grandeur.
