Cry proteins are produced by Bacillus thuringiensis during sporulation.
The toxicity of the Cry proteins is specific to only insect larvae and it is unharmful to humans, resulting in exploitation of these proteins for human benefit.
Benefits to humans:
- used as an adjuvant in vaccines - non-toxic to humans and cost of production is low.
- Exploited to produce insect resistance crops.
