Why does 'nightlife' majorly take place during the night?

By 'nightlife' I specifically mean a subset of the activities described in the [wikipedia article](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nightlife) - dancing, consuming drugs(including alcohol), recorded music, etc. in establishments such as pubs, bars, discotheques, etc or even personal homes. A few reasons I can think of for individuals preferring the night to the daytime for such activities - 1. It makes logical sense to enjoy narcotics before the time one naturally sleeps, as unpleasant hours of it wearing off are cut off by sleep. Even for some other stimulants, sleeping is a natural buffer that keeps one from experiencing an unpleasant 'comedown'. 2. Daytime is reserved for activities that require daylight, like picnics, etc or for jobs. Activities that take place indoors can be scheduled at whatever time. 2) would adequately explain the preference of Saturday nights over Saturday mornings IF 1. A significant number of Saturday night partygoers occupy their Saturday daytimes with picnics, etc. or have 6 day working weeks OR 2. There is a significant overlap between Friday night and Saturday night partiers and they need several hours to recover Therefore of all of these, the strongest reason I find is the effect timeline of the most common narcotic, alcohol. So is the 'nightlife schedule' significantly altered in areas/communities where the most popular drugs of choice are neither narcotics nor ones which allow sleep till several hours after(e.g. can't sleep on an MD comedown)? Do 'party destinations(Ibiza, Cabo, etc.)' or festivals have 24-hours 'nightlife' and to what extent is the cause of this the nature of the place itself(people on vacation with no job duties) versus the substances in vogue?
