Matt jogged to his friends house 12 miles away and then got a ride back 12 miles on the same route. It took him 2 hours longer to jog there than ride back. His riding rate was 25 mph faster than his jogging rate.

riding rate of speeding = 25 mph faster than jog rate

use the distance formula d=rt, r=d/t t=d/r

normal walking speed = about jogging speed = 4 mph

jogging time = 12/4 = 3 hours car time = 1 hour

car ride speed = 4+25 = 29 mph

it took him 2 hours longer to jog 12 miles than to ride 12 miles

t = d/r
