Lets think about this
If two numbers add together and equal 97 then the numbers you choose have to be about half of the total
so what is half of 97
it is 48.5 but that is not an integer
so lets take the number above and below that number and we get 48 and 49 and these would be the answers
Using algebra
let x = the first number
x+1 is the next number
now add them together
x + x + 1 = 97
2x + 1 = 97
2x = 96 (subtract 1 from each side of the equation to get here
now divide by 2
x = 48
and
x+ 1 = 49
