Hi Kalise! With a word problem like this, there are three things to consider straight away:
1) How much sorbet does Hugo have?
2) How many people is he serving it to?
3) What type of serving is he using?
The question tells us these things:
1) He has one gallon
2) He's giving it to 32 people
3) He's using cups
The question reveals two different measurements: GALLONS and CUPS. So ask yourself? Which one's larger? Once you know that, the next question then would be... Would the smaller measurement "go into" the larger? And how many of the smaller would it take to make up the larger?
Once you have the answer to the this you now know how many servings you have. Finally, ask yourself, how many people am I serving it to? Take the number of servings divided by the total number of people and... VOILA. You'll have the answer to "How many cups of fruit sorbet will each person get?"
Try this without my giving you the answer. If you don't get it... I'll check back!
All the best...
