Social studies is a foundation of knowledge about American culture and the world. The subject teaches ways past societies lived and their stories. Maybe we are learning about Pioneers or Indians. Do you know the meaning behind Thanksgiving or do you believe its based on family coming over to the house and eating?
Nations survival to defeat enemies and survive in society with limited resources and harsh economic conditions. Every generation benefits from knowing the past, so in the present we as a society, work to not repeat what was. And to educate and discuss comparisons in life in the 2000's versus 2000 years ago. Social studies also teaches political science, history, economics, religion, geography, anthropology, as well as psychology.
