So all viruses have a protein capsid on the outside. But only enveloped viruses have an extra lipid coating on top of that protein capsid, while the non-enveloped, also called naked viruses do not contain them. Along with lipids, the envelope is made up of proteins the virus "stole" from the host. But enveloped viruses are easier to destroy since various disinfecting agents can disrupt the lipid membrane. This killing mechanism is not possible with naked viruses since they can use other tactics to invade host immunity.
