Paracetamol belongs to the class of agents called NSAIDS. .. non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs.
NSAIDS act by inhibiting cyclo- oxygenase, the enzyme responsible for the formation of prostaglandins from arachidonic acid. The prostaglandins are small molecules that have been shown to cause inflammation (eg., edema and pain).
Sir John Vane won the Nobel prize for his work on this pathway.
