Why does the human eye perceive a red colored dress as the color red?

We "see" color based on the wavelength of light reflected by an object. A dress that looks red appears that way because the molecules that make up the dress are absorbing other wavelengths of light, and reflecting the wavelength that corresponds to red (700-635 nm).
