Why is "voy" used in "voy perdiendo" instead of "estoy"?
Apparently "Voy perdiendo" means "I'm losing." But I thought the present participle was formed using estar. I am confused!

Voy perdiendo is more colorful and desperate; because of the use of "voy", there is a double meaning, that of how the game is progressing and a sense of "I'm going away" from the game a loser. Subtle difference.

"Estoy perdiendo" is also correct, however "voy perdiendo" is more commonly used among natives.
