I could make some recommendations based off of the tablet but I'm not sure which you're using. However, in general, practice makes perfect with tablets. It seems like you'll never get to the skill you have with paper and pencil, but if you keep working at it you'll get there! It took me a solid 3 or 4 weeks using my tablet daily in my undergrad animation degree to really capture the skill and detail I had with paper. My advice is to keep working at it, as well as use the zoom tool and thinner brushes at first. As you refine your skill you can use larger brushes while capturing the same nuance and detail.
