They both should be acceptable. Different textbooks use variations of latin root to refer to the same structures. However, each school has a preferred text (usually Netter's) that they use as reference when grading practicals and written tests. If you happen to learn laterale from another text and it was marked wrong simply because of the spelling, you can always challenge it. Most experienced TA's would give you credit for laterale when the key says leteralis.
