Recall that the slope-intercept form of a straight line is y=mx+b, where m is the slope and b is the y intercept i.e. when x=0.
If you solve the equation 4x+y=-4 for y we have y=-4x-4 now compare this equation with y=mx+b we find that m=-4 and b=-4 so the slope is -4 units of y per unit of x.
The graph is a straight line that passes through the points (0,-4) and (-1,0) and slopes downward to the right.
