Hi! Don't omit "the!" If you do, you could change the sentence to ""I watched film, read books, and stayed over multiple summers to train." Hope this helps!

I would say, " stayed during the summers," instead of "over." It is often the preposition that makes a sentence sound awkward. Hope this helps!
